The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation (ANMF) has announced a 4.5% growth in its membership – with the number of members now standing at 258,989 as at 30 June 2016.
Federal Secretary, Lee Thomas, advised the continued growth in membership cements the ANMF’s position as Australia’s largest union.
“This is a real vote of confidence in the ANMF’s State, Territory and National campaigns over the past 12 months, where we’ve stood-up for our members and their families, fighting back against the ongoing attacks in health and aged care,” she said.
“Working closely with our State and Territory Branches, we’ve all fought hard to protect Medicare, reverse the billions the Government has axed from health and aged care funding, and defend our members’ penalty rates and campaign for better and safer workloads and nurse ratios.
“The ANMF is a leader in health, aged care, industrial, professional and political arenas and we will continue to be the voice for Nurses, Midwives and Assistants in Nursing (AiN) and, of course, to advocate for the community.”
