About

The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation is the union for Registered nurses, Registered Enrolled nurses, Registered Midwives, and Registered Assistants in Nursing doing nursing work in every state and territory throughout Australia.

When you join one of our branches, you are joining one of the largest and fastest growing unions in Australia with over 280,000 members.

We are proud of the work that you, our members do, in every health setting, in every hospital, nursing home, GP clinic, community health practice, in rural and remote Australia and in large hospitals in big cities.

Nurses, Midwives, and Assistants in Nursing are at the forefront of providing quality healthcare to every Australian, wherever they live, whenever they need it.  We know that our members are hardworking and dedicated and make a difference to the lives of thousands of Australian’s each and every day.

Safe Patient Care for all Australians

Patients interests and quality patient care is central to what we do as Nurses, Midwives and Assistants in Nursing each and every day. There is much to be done to ensure that decision makers, politicians and bureaucrats understand that more nurses, funding for beds and quality education and training for staff will benefit our community and enable the best patient care for all Australian’s.

Ratio's For Aged Care - Make Them Law NOW

The ANMF has launched a national campaign, calling on the Federal Government and all federal politicians to:  Mandate minimum staffing levels and skills mix in aged care; and,  Implement legislation enforcing greater transparency, reporting and accountability from for-profit aged care providers.  One of our particular concerns is the current lack of accountability for the use of taxpayers’ funds in the for-profit aged care sector.

The chronic staffing crisis in Australia’s aged care system has led to dangerous workloads for nurses and carers resulting, too often, in missed care for vulnerable nursing home residents, the big for-profit providers clearly have the financial capacity to improve staffing to ensure safer and more effective care.

A message from ANMF Federal Secretary

Fighting any Government attack on penalty rates, saving our Universal healthcare system, improving workloads and tackling aged care staffing problems.  These are the key issues you have trusted me to fight for on your behalf over the next four years, and I will work tirelessly to tackle each of them at a federal level.

Nurses and midwives deserve respect for our commitment and dedication to the sick and vulnerable, whenever and wherever they need us.  This includes working shifts 24/7 – missing our families and public holidays, community activity and weekend events.

We know what we give up to be there 24/7 – and we must ensure that your penalty rates are safe from any Morrison Government attack.  Protecting our professions will be a priority over the next four years at the ANMF.

This is my guarantee to you.

Many thanks

Annie Butler
